Daejin Choi

Chief Executive Officer

Daejin Choi is the CEO of Doosan GridTech, responsible for all aspects of company strategy and execution.

Daejin joined Doosan Heavy Industries in 2009 and has led major initiatives in strategy development, process improvement and M&A over his seven years with the company. Prior to Doosan, he was with the Boston Consulting Group assisting clients in the industrial goods, consumer electronics and banking sectors. He began his career as an Economist at The Bank of Korea.

Chief Technology Officer

David Kaplan is Chief Technology Officer of Doosan GridTech, responsible for leading technology design and development.

David founded 1Energy Systems in 2011 and led the firm as CEO until it joined Doosan. He has over 30 years of technology experience in fields including controlled charging of electric vehicles, database management, web services, and radio-frequency identification (RFID). His work experience prior to Doosan includes roles at Microsoft, Snohomish PUD, Impinj and as the founder of V2Green.

Tom Melling

Chief Strategy Officer

Tom Melling is Chief Strategy Officer, responsible for the company’s strategy execution by helping align key functions of planning, business development, resource and capacity development, legal and risk management, and process improvement.

Tom has more than a decade of experience as a software executive and successful startup entrepreneur. At Serengeti Law, as Vice President of Product Management, he helped lead the company from its inception in 2001 through its acquisition by Thomson Reuters in 2010. Tom served as President of the Serengeti Law division of Thomson Reuters from the merger until 2012.

Andrew Miller

Vice President, Engineering

Andrew Miller is Vice President of Engineering at Doosan GridTech, responsible for all aspects of software engineering and product development.

Andrew has over 20 years of software and services development experience with database management systems, web services, service-oriented architectures (SOA), and software as a service (SaaS). At Microsoft, Andrew delivered multiple versions of Microsoft Access, helped shape the user experience in Microsoft SharePoint, and led the global engineering team responsible for Microsoft CRM and Microsoft CRM Online.

Dan Sowder

Dan Sowder

Vice President, Power Systems Integration

Dan Sowder is Vice President of Power Systems Integration for Doosan GridTech, responsible for the design, installation, and deployment of operational projects.

Dan is a recognized industry expert in energy storage and distributed energy management, leading the design, installation, and operations of multiple utility-scale energy storage systems while working in Duke Energy’s Emerging Technology Office. He led multiple grid technology deployments and business model initiatives designed to enhance the value of renewable energy on the grid. Prior to working at Duke Energy, Dan served as a nuclear submarine officer in the U.S. Navy.

Daniel Malarkey

Vice President of Sales

As Vice President of Sales, Daniel Malarkey leads the team that brings energy storage solutions to our customers. Daniel and his team partner with customers to determine how energy storage can add value at a particular site on the grid and then structure energy storage projects that deliver it. Energy storage is a versatile technology that can provide a diverse set of grid services. Daniel and his team use their deep knowledge of energy storage capabilities along with markets and commercial terms to shape winning project proposals for utilities and independent power producers.

Daniel has over 30 years of experience in technology and public policy. Prior to joining Doosan in 2013, he served as the Deputy Director for the Washington State Department of Commerce, where his duties included management and policy leadership for the state energy office. He has held senior positions at Amazon.com, as an investment banker to local governments, and as an economic and management consultant.

Harry Sung Yoon

Controller, Finance & Planning

Harry Sung Yoon is the Controller at Doosan GridTech, responsible for the finance and planning.

Harry joined Doosan Corporation in 2000 and has held roles handling finance management, accounting, treasury, corporate governance and supporting acquisitions and restructuring projects including Doosan Bobcat, Doosan Motrol, and Doosan FMS. More recently, he has done financial planning, budget control, strategic financial analysis and managed financial operations as part of Doosan Heavy Industries.

Julie Varness

Julie Varness

VP, Accounting and HR

Julie Varness is Vice President of Accounting and HR at Doosan GridTech, responsible for all accounting, contract management and human resources activities.

Julie has over 20 years of experience leading finance and accounting teams at high-growth and start-up companies in the SaaS and retail industries including Serengeti Law, Homegrocer.com and Eagle Hardware & Garden. In her role as Controller and Director of Finance at Serengeti Law, Julie played a key leadership role in the acquisition and integration with Thomson Reuters in 2010.

Rogers Weed

Vice President, Product Management

Rogers Weed is Vice President of Product Management for Doosan GridTech, responsible for marketing and product-related business decisions such as pricing, packaging and positioning.

Rogers has over 15 years of experience in product management and business roles at Microsoft – he was a Corporate Vice President and part of the company’s Marketing Leadership Team. In 2009, Rogers was appointed by Governor Chris Gregoire to direct Washington State’s Department of Commerce where he provided leadership on economic development issues including the state’s energy policy. Rogers began his career as a Consultant with Bain & Company.

Michael Atkinson

Michael Atkinson

Vice President of Business Development

As Vice President of Business Development, Michael is responsible for developing new business opportunities in the utility market and managing the team focused on working with our utility customers. He has 20-years of experience in engineering and construction specializing in the energy and utility industry, and spent over a dozen years leading software technology companies which practiced in the advancing smart grid market. Most recently, he was the top executive spearheading the North American region for GE Grid Solutions and Alstom Grid. Prior to that, he headed up the Network Management Software Division of Alstom Grid in North America, South America and China.
