Software Development Engineer

Software Development Engineer – Clean Energy

Doosan GridTech, an innovative, Seattle-based clean energy technology firm, has outstanding career opportunities for entry-level Software Development Engineers. We’re addressing the growing field of electric energy storage with a new business model and innovative technologies like peer networks and multi-level optimization. Responsibilities

Lead a team and assume responsibility for the delivery of Doosan GridTech’s pipeline of MW-scale energy storage system (ESS) projects.

  • Manage project delivery operations for Doosan GridTech’s pipeline of energy storage system deployments for electric utilities.
    + Responsible for managing the scope, schedule, and budget for multiple MW-scale ESS deployments with electric utilities.
    + Direct a team of Engineering Project Managers as direct reports; ensure that projects are delivered within and acceptable scope, schedule, and budget.
    + Maintain an up-to-date understanding of project status and communicate status within Doosan GridTech.
    + Manage project controls and drive the continuous improvement of project delivery processes.
  • Leader of Engineering Project Managers.
    + Oversee the project management efforts of multiple Engineering Project Managers across all projects.
    + Manage the training, quality control, and retention of multiple Engineering Project Managers.
    + Direct quality control and engineering efforts that result in design improvements and performance improvements related to ESS delivery.
  • Manage key customer engagements.
    + Serve as project delivery sponsor for all projects including engagement with the customer’s senior operational and engineering leaders.
    + Routinely communicate with customers to resolve issues and ensure project delivery will be successful. Coordinate delivery of key project materials such as design documents, drawings, and manuals.
    + Efficiently and effectively track issues throughout the life of active projects.
    + Manage the change order process with customers and vendors.
  • Support Business Development and Project Origination by providing technical resources and support for new project opportunities.
  • Work internally with marketing, technical product managers, and product planning in evaluating new business opportunities and new products.
  • Contribute to product development efforts by bringing learning from projects and customers to our Product Development process.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years demonstrated experience in project management. Experience managing large, complex electric utility projects strongly preferred.
  • MS in Engineering, Engineering Management, Business Administration, Project Management, Operations or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Doosan GridTech’s design services for utility customers and support control and optimization software development.
  • Work with utility customers to understand value creation mechanisms for distributed energy resources in their system. Develop and use technical and economic models that characterize distribution systems, bulk grid operations, and distributed energy resources to optimally size and locate resources, and determine optimal combinations of applications. Select appropriate modeling tools to meet customer needs within project scope. Author technical reports that provide analytical results and a narrative to support sound decision-making by utility customers, enabling customers to obtain approval for distributed energy resource deployments from internal stakeholders and/or regulators.
  • Develop and use analytical tools to create and refine power system control methodologies that can be implemented within Doosan GridTech’s software products. Use models to quantify, evaluate, and improve the technical performance of control schemes/algorithms. Develop methodologies for calibrating algorithms within specific distribution circuit scenarios. Identify new ways in which networked distribution sensors and actuators can work together to better manage distribution circuits, particularly on circuits with high PV penetration. Contribute to technology development and create specifications for circuit management methodologies.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years demonstrated experience in electrical power system analysis, using advanced power system modelling tools. Experience on utility electrical power system design and/or utility bulk power system resource optimization is strongly preferred.
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power System Operations, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, or equivalent, or MS with 3+ years of direct electrical power systems analysis experience.
  • Alternatively, quantitatively minded applicants with engineering degree and MBA will be considered, if coupled with strong utility experience.

  • Create and coordinate the delivery and quality assurance of key engineering drawings and reports. Manage the PE certification process for electrical design drawings.
  • Provide engineering support for component solicitations including the evaluation of power conversion systems and battery systems from multiple vendors.
  • Author customer-facing documents to help them implement energy storage designs (e.g. installation plans).
  • Work with others in Doosan GridTech to identify design and performance improvements in Doosan GridTech’s delivered systems.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years demonstrated experience in electrical power system engineering. Experience on utility electrical power system projects or distributed energy resource projects is strongly preferred.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related electrical power systems field with 5+ years of direct engineering experience within an electric utility or MS in Electrical Engineering or related electrical power systems field with 2+ years of direct engineering experience.
  • Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) in any state desired.

In particular, work closely with our power engineers, project engineers and customers to identify and harvest valuable product features embedded within our customer project deliverables. Successfully navigate inherent tensions between our project responsibilities and our product and market objectives, and help to scale this process as our company grows.
  • Proactively initiate product and feature concepts, and detailed technical designs.
  • Proactively and collaboratively manage trade-offs between desired product features and engineering / development resources to ensure timely delivery.
  • Author and ensure creation of specifications to support the above goals.
  • Author and ensure creation of intellectual property disclosures; support patent filings.

  • Deep technical knowledge of wired and wireless communication protocols

Responsibilities

  • Represent Doosan GridTech in industry standards organizations and processes; communicate Doosan standards innovations to industry; identify industry standards from which Doosan products can benefit.
  • Work closely with stakeholders – utility customers, industry technology suppliers and our engineers – to identify and drive consensus for open technology standards that deliver business benefits for both customers and suppliers
  • Develop and author specifications, and work closely with our engineers to incorporate standards in our product designs
  • Work with outside organizations to create standards certification tools and programs
  • Help to secure industry R&D projects that implement standards

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of direct experience designing and/or implementing communication protocols
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead consensus-driven technical stakeholder processes
  • Experience with electric power system or distributed energy resources strongly preferred

This position will partner with team leaders at the Company to support talent acquisition, compensation and benefit programs and employee development at a rapidly-growing company that is transforming the electric power system.

Required

  • 2+ years prior experience in Human Resources at a technology-focused company working specifically in recruiting, talent acquisition or related work
  • Experience hiring in the Seattle market
  • Proven ability to manage the full cycle of talent acquisition and management
  • Prior experience working in other human resource areas such as compensation and benefits, employee development and training, performance evaluation and policy development
  • A strong customer-service approach to engaging with employee and solving issues
  • Highly-organized and possess strong planning and execution skills with the ability to prioritize tasks appropriately
