Doosan GridTech has an outstanding career opportunity for an experienced Energy Storage System (ESS) Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manager to join our growing Australian team. This position reports to the Managing Director and is based in Melbourne, Victoria.

The role requires regular and frequent travel to clients and sites across Australia. Current project sites are in QLD, ACT and SA.

You will be responsible for orchestrating Doosan GridTech’s holistic Maintenance and Warranty Support Program. Work closely with industry stakeholders, customers, and our engineers to support the best energy storage systems in the world.

We require a person with deep technical understanding of complex energy storage systems and with technical safety knowledge, with excellent ability to coordinate complicated workflows and excellent customer communication skills. Utility distribution grid familiarity is a strong plus. Other desired capabilities, job responsibilities and qualifications follow.

  • A strong background in electrical engineering and knowledge of electrical codes, regulations and industry best practice and maintain the status of a Registered Professional Qualified Engineer (RPQE).

  • A working knowledge of Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS), and Environmental legislation, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Standards.

  • Relevant experience in the energy industry with BESS projects and a working knowledge of battery storage and solar technologies, including their operation, grid connections and permitting requirements.

  • Deep technical understanding of utility scale BESS, their maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and warranty support.

  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating practicality and common sense, and a focus on delivering results and meeting deadlines.

  • Strong customer engagement, stakeholder, and contractor management skills - an excellent listener and communicator with interpersonal skills, and capable of motivating people.

  • Solutions oriented and accepts responsibility and accountability.

  • Working knowledge of communication and network protocols.

  • Familiarity with maintenance management system software.

  • Excellent analytical skills, judgment, and ability to drive trade-off decisions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Required to travel regularly, and as required, to oversee the performance of all O&M works.

Desired Skills

  • Australian power system understanding and experience.

  • Experience in operating and maintaining assets in the National Electricity Market (NEM) and NEM requirements.

  • Familiarity with various BESS system components such as inverters, batteries, transformers, switchgear, power plant controllers, SCADA systems and cyber security considerations.



  • BA in Electrical Engineering or similar.

  • Registered Professional Qualified Engineer (RPQE).


  • A project management qualification or certification.

  • Electrical mechanic/fitter license.


  • Lead a team and manage daily operations, providing guidance, O&M training and risk workshops, and support to ensure a high level of performance and ensuring safe, smooth functioning, monitoring and maintenance.

  • Ensure compliance with the Company’s Work Health and Safety management system, industry best standards, and regulatory requirements pertaining to energy storage operations.

  • Develop strategies to optimize energy storage performance, maximize efficiency, and minimize downtime.

  • Coordinate and schedule regular maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs to ensure system reliability and longevity.

  • Assigned as the permit-to-work system authoriser for all site O&M activities and appoints appropriate O&M team members as alternative authorisers when required.

  • Management of third-party vendors for warranty, O&M and technical support.

  • Work with remote operation centers who provide daily plant reports and monitoring through SCADA, scheduled and unscheduled outage management, reporting and support of comms links to stakeholders.

  • Analyse operational data and performance metrics to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.

  • Collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and contractors to procure necessary equipment, parts, and services required for maintenance and operations.

  • Work with Field Supervisors and Technicians to address operational issues promptly, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to resolve problems.

  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports related to operations, maintenance, and performance data to demonstrate conformance with contractual performance guarantees.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and technological advancements to enhance overall system efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Work closely with the HSEQ Manager to enforce HSEQ policies and procedures as required, and maintain high quality and safe work standards and protocols in line with regulatory requirements.

  • Actively participate in the investigation of operational, environmental, and safety incidents to determine root cause. Propose corrective, preventive and/or improvement actions and implement these as required.
