Vena Energy has named a consortium of Doosan Enerbility and its subsidiary, Doosan GridTech, to design and build a 41MW/45MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at its 108MW Tailem Bend Solar Farm. Doosan will provide engineering, procurement, and construction services and deploy its Intelligent Controller energy management platform for this solar + storage complex. The contract was signed by Doosan GridTech's new CEO, Andreas Fornwald, in Brisbane on February 11, 2022.Â
The 1,120-battery unit system is expected to be fully operational by early 2023 ― and will counter the intermittent nature of solar generation and maximize the solar plant's profit while providing ancillary services to the National Electricity Market.
Doosan's Intelligent Controller energy management platform will orchestrate the entire hybrid power plant and employ its advanced PV+S controls to:
Implement multiple operating modes during daily solar shiftÂ
Smooth plant output
Reduce system degradation and extend plant life
Deliver fast frequency response of 250ms
This project marks the second high-capacity BESS in Australia awarded to Doosan within the past six months and showcases another global design effort from its US, Australia, and Korea teams. The initial award was Doosan's inaugural project with the renewable developer, Neoen to deliver the 100MW Capital Battery in the Australian Capital Territory.Â
Fornwald joined Doosan GridTech in December 2021 to accelerate its industry growth and secure broader energy storage system opportunities on a global platform through the international reach into the power and industrial markets of its parent company, Doosan Enerbility.
